Origins
HotProspects was first launched in 2006 with backing from government to address a brain drain in the East Midlands. Research has shown that too many graduates were leaving the region, attracted to the bright lights of cities like London and Manchester. So we were presented with the challenge of turning this around. Never one to shy away from a challenge we set to work.
We knew the response had to be pretty innovative, as obviously the current system wasn’t working. So the first thing we did was asked informed people what annoyed them about recruitment firms. It wasn’t pretty, but it was interesting. Some of the key frustrations employers reported were:Over charging- usually based on % of salary fees
- Unethical practices
- Jargon
- Flinging stock CVs over
- Too many recruitment channels
Based on this feedback we then went on to design a graduate recruitment business that avoided all these issues, offering East Midlands based employers an alternative option to the standard recruitment agency or job board. Combing the best of both worlds, by providing a graduate facing jobs board backed up by a team of experienced recruitment professionals who actively sought out the best people for our clients. Ensuring that all our clients received were well vetted, relevant candidates, not a pile of CVs they could have received for placing an ad themselves, and we did all this for a fixed flat fee.
Initially we thought it would be mid sized SMEs that use us, and to be fair they do. But because the roles we work on are typically those where the skills are in high demand, our client base ranges from funky start ups to leading corporate giants.
We really proud of our public sector East Midlands based roots, but we always intended to run HotProspects as a commercial business. Today, operating internationally, tens of thousands of graduates down the line and thousands of clients on, we’re really proud of the business we’ve built, and excited about the future.
