HOTPROSPECTS GOES GLOBAL

HotProspects has helped a Lincolnshire business to recruit its first ever graduate, and also brought an international flavour to the business

Napas Viriyasomboon gained his bachelor degree in Automotive Engineering in his hometown of Bangkok, Thailand. He then successfully completed a Master’s degree in Manufacturing Engineering and Management at the University of Nottingham.

Napas said, “I had a positive experience at university, and after studying in the East Midlands I felt really settled here, so I was happy to stay in an area that I had become familiar with.”

Launched in June 2006, HotProspects acts as a specialist matchmaking service, linking the region’s graduates with businesses of all sizes and across all sectors.

George Barnsdale and Sons Limited, based in Spalding, are manufacturers of high quality timber windows. Established over 120 years ago, the company now has 30 employees.

Director, Stephen Wright said, “We were specifically looking to take on a graduate as we wanted an employee with a solid engineering background. We knew that someone who had studied this area would have a lot of the background knowledge needed to give them a good footing in the industry.

“We had placed adverts in the recruitment sections of local newspapers but this just didn’t get us the results we wanted”

“HotProspects offered us an easily accessible service which we knew would target the kind of people we were looking for. And it proved to be very effective.”

Napas concluded, “I wanted the role at George Barnsdale because I knew that it would allow me to use and develop the skills that I learnt at university. I was also keen to take the opportunity because I can gain a lot of valuable experience in the sector by working in the UK.

“It was actually a friend that recommended the HotProspects service to me. I found the HotProspects account team to be very helpful, and it was great to be able to talk to people who could keep you updated on your own recruitment process. I am very appreciative of the service’s help.”

HotProspects is 100% grant funded for all businesses offering placements or are based in priority sectors until 2011– saving the £1000 standard fee and saving the 10% to 25% fees charged by many recruitment agencies.

This funding has been made possible by support from East Midlands Development Agency (EMDA) and the European Reginal Development Fund (ERDF).

The need for such a service is clear. The region’s universities produce some 50,000 graduates each year but the East Midlands has the lowest graduate retention rate of any region in the UK. Many of the 230,000 SME businesses in the region want to employ new, fresh, graduate talent and graduates want to stay in the vibrant and welcoming cities and towns in which they studied, but no organisation to date has managed to effectively link this demand and supply chain.
