BETTER BY DEGREE
Specialist graduate recruitment service, HotProspects, has launched its latest new service – a combined DVD and workbook that will take businesses through each step of the recruitment and selection process, introducing best practice models and providing practical advice on how to select, recruit and train new graduate employees.
The DVD is free to businesses that apply and can be ordered from the HotProspects website at http://www.hotprospects.org.uk.
Aptly entitled Better By Degree, the DVD is presented in modular form which means that sections can be accessed as needed and by a range of staff involved in the recruitment process. It has as much appeal for a small to medium sized business as it does the human resources department of a larger organization. The modules take the user through Managed Graduate Recruitment, handling a Graduate Assessment Centre, managing Induction and Career Progression and Legislation affecting recruitment and employment today.
Iain McCracken, cofounder and Director of HotProspects explains: “Our recruitment expertise coupled with support from the East Midlands Development Agency has given us access to an incredibly wide range of resources and an extended pool of specialists. Its creation fulfills a real need for employers in the region.”
Phillip Hoskins is one such resource. Partner at Andrew & Co Solicitors in Lincoln, he was enrolled in the project to provide an up to date interpretation of the latest legislation relating to age and other discrimination laws introduced for the workplace; “It is said often but is nonetheless true, that new legislation can make recruitment a minefield for employers. New maternity, adoption and age regulations alone are less than straightforward to interpret and for people whose prime objective is running a business this can be tricky subject matter.
“There is a lot of preventative medicine to be done in this field – a lot that businesses can do that will then avoid future problems.”
“This DVD provides an excellent opportunity to raise awareness to the range of that legislation that employers are required to put in practice these days. It is not a substitute for the in-depth advice that you can receive from your legal advisor but it does raise awareness of the complexities surrounding recruitment practice these days. I will be recommending it to all our appropriate customers.”
Since its launch in June 2006, HotProspects has provided support to 1380 businesses and over 10,000 graduates, and filled over 1230 vacancies across the region. The service has been created to raise productivity levels in the region, and address the fact that the East Midlands currently has the lowest graduate retention rate in the UK.
For any SMEs looking to recruit new graduate talent, there is another great incentive to do so now. HotProspects is still 100% grant funded thanks to funding from East Midlands Development Agency (EMDA) – but this offer is for a limited period only.
