EAST MID GRADS ARE IN THE MONEY
Good news for East Midlands based grads. Graduate starting salaries in the East Midlands may be on the up!
The average East Midlands graduate starting salary for vacancies filled through HotProspects has defied popular speculation and risen to £19,075, a rise above inflation, depsite the tough economic climate.
Elizabeth Wilson, Project Manager of HotProspects, says: “We’ve had to work very hard since the economy crashed to keep graduate retention in the East Midlands at the same level. But it’s starting to look like that ahrd work has paid off.”
It is possible that the increase in starting salaries is part of the region’s businesses perparing for the upturn: “It may be that following a fairly heavy 2008 fall employers in 2009 turned to considering up turn strategies, and retention of skills may have been part of those plans.”
The data, based on the average starting salaries of 84 recent placements by HotProspects, also highlighted a marked difference between counties. Starting salaries in North Nottinghamshire and North Derbyshire averaged at just £16,000, compared to £22,000 in Leicestershire.
